New Mexico State Fair Begins Amid Changing Weather
The 2025 New Mexico State Fair begins today and will run until September 14. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued the update on September 4, 2025, at 7:52 AM MDT. The update notes that September weather in New Mexico is variable as the state transitions from summer to fall. During this time, the region can experience periods of the monsoon's wet phase as well as drier conditions brought by westerly winds. Remnants of tropical systems from either the eastern Pacific or the western Gulf of Mexico can add surges of moisture throughout the month. Additionally, weather systems moving southward from the Rocky Mountains can result in strong winds, cooler temperatures, widespread precipitation, and even severe weather. The report recalls that a tornado was observed during the 1985 State Fair. The fair's duration has varied over the years, sometimes extending into early October, which has influenced the range of weather conditions experienced during the event. For more details, a historical weather summary is available on the NWS Albuquerque website.
