Colorado’s LGBTQ+ Journey: Activism, Pride, Marriage

In 1972, Gerald "Jerry" Gerash, Lynn Tamlin, Jane Dundee, Terry Mangan, and Mary Sassatelli formed Colorado’s first documented LGBTQ+ political activist group, the Gay Coalition of Denver, according to Rocky Mountain PBS.

In 1974, the first LGBTQ+ pride celebration was held in Denver with a small gathering in Cheesman Park organized by members of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire, as reported by Denver The Mile High City.

On October 7, 2014, Colorado legalized same-sex marriage, following a ruling by the Supreme Court one year later.
