Recent data highlights the growing contribution of renewable energy sources like solar and wind in U.S. states' electricity generation for 2023. In terms of percentage of electricity generated from solar and wind, Iowa, South Dakota, New Mexico, Kansas, and California take the top spots.

New Mexico stands out as a global leader. According to a report by the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), New Mexico ranks #2 in the world for territories capable of achieving complete energy self-sufficiency through renewable energy sources. The report also emphasizes New Mexico’s significant position globally in harnessing wind and solar energy.
