Winter Mix: Rain in Valleys, Snow in Mountains

The U.S. National Weather Service in Boise has issued a forecast for the first weekend of the new year. The outlook calls for warmer than usual temperatures with rain as the primary form of precipitation in most areas. However, mountain areas like Bogus Basin could see snow or a wintry mix from tomorrow through early Monday.

In Baker City, there is a 30% chance of precipitation at 11am on Saturday, reaching 35% at 5pm and 25% by 11pm. Sunday’s early morning shows a 45% probability, dropping later to 30% and then increasing again to 65% by Monday morning, with chances of precipitation remaining between 55% and 60% into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Boise’s forecast indicates a 30% chance of rain at 11am on Saturday, increasing to 60% by 5pm before falling to 15% by 11pm. Sunday starts at 15% at 5am, rising to 30% by 11am and 60% by 5pm. Monday sees a mid-range probability of 20% to 25%, with a slight rise later in the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At Bogus Basin, conditions could vary more significantly. There is a 60% chance of precipitation at 11am on Saturday, which jumps to 90% at 5pm, then falls to 15% by 11pm. Sunday morning has an 80% probability, increasing to 85% through much of Sunday and dropping to 40% by early Monday. Midday on Tuesday shows a lower chance of 25%, but it rises to as high as 75% by Tuesday evening and remains between 75% and 80% into early Wednesday, before decreasing to 60%.

In Burns, the chance of precipitation is slightly lower with 20% at 11am on Saturday, decreasing to 15% by 5pm and 10% by 11pm. Sunday begins with 20% at 5am, reaching 25% by 11am and staying around that level through the day. Monday sees a sharp increase to 50% by 11am and up to 55% by 5pm, then falling slowly into the following days.

Caldwell’s numbers show a 20% chance at 11am on Saturday, rising to 55% by 5pm before dropping to 15% by 11pm. On Sunday, the chance stands at 25% at 5am, then increases to 35% by 11am and holds steady at 35% through the day, before dropping to 10% by early Monday.

These detailed probabilities highlight the variation in weather across the region, with warmer, mostly rainy conditions prevailing in the lower areas and a higher likelihood of wintry weather in the mountainous regions.
