Rocky Mount Hosts DEA Drug Takeback Day Events

Staff Report / RockyMountlocal.org

The Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD) will take part in the DEA National Prescription Drug Takeback Day on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at two locations: Sam's Club and Walmart in Rocky Mount, NC.

This initiative aims to address concerns about prescription drug misuse, which affects approximately 8.6 million Americans, according to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Many individuals obtain these controlled substances from family and friends.

Residents wishing to participate can follow these steps:

1. Gather old or unused prescription medications (note: no needles or syringes are accepted).

2. Remove all personal information from the prescription medications and place them in a secure bag.

3. Drop off the medications at the designated store or club location during the event hours.
